Bucerias Villas

Levi, we had a great time. The villa was lovely and everything worked out quite well during our stay (including the weather, but you don't get to take credit for that!) I have a few comments that might prove helpful to others or to you when planning a stay at Villa Encanto. 1) There should be some way to make payment for food purchases made by the staff other than cash. Since we had no idea what the costs would be (and they begin to add up when you have 9 people) we were caught short on cash. Everything in the area requires cash (massage, surf lessons, silver purchases, food...) so it is easy to run short. Most people who travel a lot don't like to carry too much cash and would prefer to have some means for paying in advance or being able to use a credit card. 2) We really loved the staff that works there and found them to be helpful and easygoing about all of our requests. The only comment I would make is that when dinner is being served, it would be better if the staff did not wash dishes in the sink which is adjacent to the dining area. It makes it difficult to hear over the clanging of the plates and such. Additionally if there were any "private" conversations taking place, it could be awkward to have the staff right there while you are dining. I know that they want to clean up and leave at the end of a long day, but it is a bit disruptive to the guests who are trying to enjoy dinner. Not a big deal for us, but I can see others being very annoyed. 3) I mentioned this to Greg during our stay, but I would suggest that the lighting be enhanced throughout the house. The lights next to the beds are not really bright enough for bedtime reading and there is a darkness throughout the house once the natural sunlight is gone. Upping the bulb wattage or having a few more strategically placed lamps would make a big difference. 4) The general house info was very helpful (menu items, driving directions!!!, general info), but a little more detailed info about what activities are available at the house would have been helpful. I called and inquired before I left, but I had to do a lot of hunting around to find my answers. A simple addition to the info sheet stating that the villa is stocked with "some pool toys, beach boogie boards, board games, cards, dvd's of TV shows" would have been nice. We have stayed in several villas over the last few years and each one has different features and offerings (the one we rented last year had a 500 DVD library and 5000 CD collection for example). Since they have these wonderful offerings at the villa they should make sure people know it. 5) Laura arranged massages for us, but when I asked her the price initially she quoted $60-100 depending upon the person offering the massage. It is actually more like $35-60. Had I know this I would have had her book more massages earlier before it was too late and we were unable to get the times and dates we wanted. The massages we had were excellent and it would have been nice to have had more at that price since it is so much less than at home. I think that is it. It is a lovely villa and the staff is delightful and helpful. We very much enjoyed our stay, but we prefer to try different places and have made it our policy to not return to the same location despite our level of enjoyment. My father (who is 80) really enjoyed this location because it was so easy to get to (last year in the DR we had to drive almost 2 hours over horrible roads to get to the villa we rented. It was worth it once we were there, but this short ride and airport transfer was much better!!) Anyway, I will confirm with my family, but I doubt we would rent the same place again and I am sure we would not be able to commit to a schedule quite yet. We have too many different school and work schedules to accommodate to commit a whole year in advance.

In the small town of Bucerias, just 25 minutes north of the Puerto Vallarta International Airport, lies the private, ocean-front estate known as Villa Encanto.

This magnificent villa is fully staffed and can accommodate up to 16 guests. The main house is over 5,000 square feet and consists of five beautifully decorated bedrooms that open on to the private terraces, all with king size beds and private bathrooms. Two of the rooms have ocean views while the remaining three have pool views. The downstairs master bedroom (one of three) is very spacious and can accommodate a person in a wheelchair.

There is a large great room on the main floor that opens to a covered patio for outdoor dining with views of the ocean and garden. In addition, the home features a media room with a 42 inch widescreen TV(High Definition), DVD and VCR player, satellite television, wireless high speed internet access, an "all in one" HP fax machine with printer, copier and scanner. There is also a dedicated phone line where guests can make unlimited calls to US and Canada at no charge. The media room also has two day beds and a game table.

Beyond the main house in the center of the Estate, is the junior size Olympic pool and guest house. The guest room consists of two bedrooms, separated by a kitchenette, each with a private bathroom and a king size bed. This small house is only rented with the main property, never separately. All rooms on the Estate have there own central air conditioning system. Maids, cook, caretaker, gardener and bilingual property manager are included in the rental price. The property can also accommodate a small private wedding at an extra cost. Massage services available at the villa upon request.

The Villa is located in Bucerias on the bay of Banderas with miles of white sandy beaches in either direction of the property. The beach is extremely safe and clean. The village of Bucerias has many wonderful restaurants and gift shops all within walking distance from the Estate. There are also many leisure activities offered locally, such as, surfing, sport fishing, parasailing, jungle adventures, swimming with the dolphins and horseback riding. Bucerias is located between Puerto Vallarta and Four Seasons Resort in Punta Mita, approximately 25 minutes to either destination.

Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta lies along Banderas Bay, the second largest bay in the Western Hemisphere. It is located 352 kilometers (219 miles) from Guadalajara, the state capital of Jalisco, and it is nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Madre mountain range. The region has many forests, rivers and waterfalls, with an average temperature of 27°C (80°F).

Of its many attractions Playa Mismaloya, which gained fame from the film "The Night of the Iguana", is a popular celebrity hangout. The impressive rock formations of Los Arcos emerge from the bay's crystalline waters, which are great for diving and discovering incredible underwater mountains and steeps. The city hall has murals painted by Manuel Lepe, and the Malecon (sea wall) is adorned with romantic bronze sculptures. Sport fishing is just one of many activities you can do during your stay in Puerto Vallarta. Each year, during the month of November, the International Sailfish Fishing Tournament takes place.
